How to create the best retailer pitch deck

I can say this, as we’ve had feedback from major retailers that ours have been the best.

You create your brand, secure great PR and sales are going well on your site. The natural next step is to try and move into retail (if you haven’t been one of those rare brands who land retail pre-launch of course). We secured 70 retailer placements for my skincare brand Faace (Cult Beauty, Selfridges, Neiman Marcus to name a few), and have helped dozens of others land their dream partners.

The hardest bit comes when you get into store. But that’s a challenge for another piece. Here, let’s focus on how to create your best-ever retailer pitch deck. If you’re interested however, you can read about the undertaking that is making retailer successful here.

What is a retail pitch?

Simply put, it’s your opportunity to engage with the retailer by sharing the details of your brand in a deck format.

Why your retail pitch deck is such an important piece of collateral

You only get one chance to make a good first impression.

If your sales are great, but the content is sloppy, then if I were the buyer, I would disengage. We live in a world where we’re constantly subject to beautiful content. Social media can be art. It’s like we are being reconditioned to have better taste, with the onslaught of aesthetically pleasing imagery we’re subject to on a daily basis. Anyway, without going too deep, it’s got to look good. End of. And ‘good’ is subjective too (trust me), so if design isn’t your thing, get someone involved whose it is.

And looks aren’t everything either.

The content needs to be compelling. Think about it like you’re telling a story. The story of what is, the story of where you’re going and make the retailer want to come on that journey with you.

Success sells.

If you have good stats to share, then share them. Like if your sales are amazing on Amazon, then be bold in letting the buyer know that you think they could be as equally impressive for them too.

Know your audience.

The reason why we got really good at retailer sell in, I think, is because we’re really good at engaging journalists. And in some ways, it’s a similar audience. Experts, who are time poor and are interested in what the consumer cares about, whilst having pressure to make their work commercially viable.

Excite them.

Shaping a narrative that sells the dream is key, but you can’t just share fluff. People will disengage if you’re selling them nonsense information, that isn’t rooted in something interesting and exciting for them.

What to include in your retailer pitch deck?

This guide is all about structuring the best retail pitch deck - because a strong pitch can be the key to landing your dream retail partnership.
